You Libs, man, what a bunch of ideological brats. Your "team" didn't just get beat last night, it got pounded, drubbed, embarrassed. If the D's had gained even one seat in the senate there'd be 9 threads in RSP gloating about how that win was a repudiation of 1%'ers, women haters, racists, corporate welfare and all the other tropes you toss at conservatives to try and explain your failures as liberals.

Hat's off to that lesbian chick on MSNBC and her leg-thrill partner who sheepishly claimed that Obama only failed due to R's having control of congress. **snore**... they must have been listening to Libtard Juan Williams over on Fox who said the same thing, or the blond CNN lady and her nerd partner who were also nodding in unison when Blitzer explained Jesus O's failures as being caused by republicans.

Think about it - I watched 3 major cable channels last night for 10 minutes per and the Libs on each one said the exact same thing - Obama only failed because the R's had congress. Weird huh? Because they've only had it for 4 of the 6 he's been in power. He had it all for the 1st 2 years. All of it.

Don't you people get tired of blaming congress for blocking Obama? How is that not like blaming capitalism for the failure of the USSR? It is like it.... exactly like it. Your liberals suck. They can't govern, the economy is staggering for 80% of America, Harry Reid is a little fucking perv tyrant who spent the last 4 years burying everything from the congress and keeping it from public view (which is how the falsehood that congress blocks O's policies is kept alive) and then, when the entire nation calls bullshit on you, you still point the finger at everyone else.

Fucking dipshits.

7, SEVEN, the BIG LUCKY 7... that's how many senate seats the R's won last night. And they'll likely win Lousyana and Alaska, which will make 9 senate seats lost. The average for a mid term is 4 or 5 and when Bush's WH lost 6 in 2006 it was headline news for months, blasted across the web, the airwaves and print..... 6 was a total repudiation of everything George.

The reaction today from the half dozen I've seen online is serious, muted and the number "7" isn't even in the headlines, and of the 6 major articles I read it's not even in the first paragraph. And don't even get me going on the shellacking the D's took in the governor's arena. Fuck me... you people blow.

My 2016 prediction -

From the left we have blond Faux-Native American Liz Warren with her VP running mate Cory Booker from the gangsta ghettos of Newark

From the right we have Lieutenant Colonel Joni Ernst who doesn't need to invent a heritage to feel significant and her running mate Cory Gardner from the great state of Colorado.

That's my dream match-up. Two women and two Cory's. Both Cory's being handsome men and both women sporting the easy-care short hairstyles that keep them from sweating too much under the hot lights.

Yeah, there's Hillary and the fat guy from New Jersey and my guy Romney and the ever-awesome Scott Walker and then the slightly disturbing Rand Paul. But honestly? I like the two Cory's with their leading ladies a bit better.

*Just read an entire article from Reuters about the election and they managed 12 paragraphs without actually giving up the number of senate seats gained by the R's.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

The congressional elections didn't go my preferred way, but there were several state level ballot measures that did:

AK - minimum wage increase
AK - decriminalize weed
AR - minimum wage increase
CA - most non-violent crimes will be misdemeanors
CO - personhood failed
CT - expand early voting
DC - weed legal in small amounts
HI - use public money for early childhood education
IL - minimum wage increase
IL - birth control covered by insurance
IL - raise income tax to better fund schools
IL - voter discrimination illegal
MA - earned sick time
NE - minimum wage increase
ND - personhood failed
OR - equal rights regardless of sex
OR - legalize weed
SD - minimum wage increase
WA - gun sale background checks

It was a great election for minimum wage increases and weed. FL didn't pass legal weed though.

I was interested in having an adult discussion about the video of the lady walking through New York and the harassment she encountered, how it is ingrained into human culture (to the extent that some cultures forbid makeup or put all women in burkas) and how on some level the video was similar to poking a hornet’s nest metaphorically. I made sure to preface my OP by stating that I think there are bad people, really bad people, all over the place. Especially on the streets of NYC. I wanted to at some point tie in to the idea that other cultures deal with this issue differently and perhaps the adjustment wasn’t all on the male side of the equation, but equally the culture of women should change as well. I don’t have a strongly held belief on this and was willing to discuss and consider other’s thoughts. Never mind the discussion on the topic, at this point I am not interested in discussing it.

While there were some folks who were actually interested in having a discussion, which I was hoping to continue with. However within the first page there were at least two comments directed at me basically telling me that I am an asshole. Rather than take my points on their merits, it seems people wanted to stick to their opinions and attack me directly rather than consider what I was suggesting. For me this had the effect of not only making me not want to continue with the discussion, but not want to visit BGG for a while as well. Did I word everything as well as I could have? Probably not, but I took real offense to being called an asshole based on my comments.

Now throughout my life I have been victim to or first-hand witness to countless acts of truly evil people. Enough so that it flavors my outlook on humanity starkly.
-Alcoholic father who hit me at least once a week.
-Army NCOs who abused soldiers, COs who transferred all the white girls to HQ and the non-whites to the sub-battalions. Saw plenty of examples of treatment of enlisted folks as sub-human.
-Physical abuse while in the Army that lead to me not being able to stand for five minutes at a time for six months of my life.
-Was a block away from the DC area sniper when he shot the lady at the gas station in Manassas.
-Lived in Moscow where I saw a Chinese girl beat to an inch of her life for being Chinese. I saw a pack of skin-heads harass an African family on the Metro. I was under constant harassment by the intelligence services. I saw general disregard for the life of the poor and minorities. “Mafia” control of all commerce.
-Lived in the Sahara where I saw poverty, abuse of children by authorities, and brutal governments.
-Lived on an island nation where the hording of money and resources by the merchant and upper classes was stark.
-I worked for a non-profit in DC in neighborhoods where the police abused their powers.
-I’ve worked in two offices where management avoids EEO complaints by making new rules that affect everyone, but really only have impacts on the individual they are targeting.
-Countless managers who are willing to backstab, make irrevocable decisions that negatively impact others, all for an atta-boy. I’ve even had a head of office that I would characterize as a sociopath.
-I see one of the agencies at my current posting that subjects all of its’ staff to brainwashing to the level they won’t open their windows or order delivery.
-I’ve had an employee who was abusive to other staff, didn’t do any work, and sued when he was eventually fired after two years of a proper paper-trail. I’ve had other staff that abused the hell out of sick leave or had no qualms about lying to my face.
-Now that I am a parent I have to deal with; other kids who will throw sand in a 3 year old’s face, making sure my other child isn’t the target of the bully on the school bus, people who have no qualms about lighting up a cigarette and blowing smoke into a small child’s face, people who let their dogs shit in the grass where my kids play or the sidewalk, etc.
-Daily on my walk to work I have to deal with bicyclists who like to play chicken with the pedestrians for fun, even though they have a bike path.
I could go on, but you get the point. I am not an asshole for wanting to discuss a topic from a distance, and I doubt most of the people on this forum are. Sure at times some of the folks seem a caricature of a position, but perhaps they are playing those for yucks.

I’m not exactly sure what the point I am trying to make is, but perhaps we could all be more considerate of those with opinions that differ from ours and try to look at topics with the understanding that plenty of folks here come from different backgrounds or even different cultures. And apologies if I offended anyone with my comments. You might have to excuse me if I go back to lurking for a while. It seems I get an interest in participating in discussion every once in a while, but that seems to fade quickly around here.

The DMCA is a piece of Clinton-era legislation aimed to deter copyrighted work from being posted online. However this was made well before the modern Internet of today. It should be removed from law or heavily reformed.

Isn't it great when US law assists a terrorist organization?

Should intoxication invalidate sexual consent?

---

Intoxication is no excuse for drunk driving, so why should it be an excuse for agreeing to sex? If you get drunk and gamble too much, it's your fault for drinking too much and making poor decisions.

On the other hand, signing a contract while intoxicated can be legally redacted - as you can be easily manipulated while intoxicated. So why should a verbal contract (sexual consent) be treated any differently?

---

Would the answer to this question change in the following three scenarios?:

1) Frank and Ashley meet each other one night, both get intoxicated, and have sex after they both verbally agree to it.

2) Frank and Ashley meet each other one night, Ashley gets drunk but Frank is DD. They have sex after they both verbally agree to it.

3) Frank and Ashley meet each other one night, Frank gets drunk but Ashley is DD. They have sex after they both verbally agree to it.

I can't watch. Someone wake me up in two years.

This is especially tragic:

On energy, McConnell was already exploring ways to derail Obama's plans to reduce the pollution blamed for global warming from coal-fired power plants, a maneuver that some Democrats from coal states are likely to support but that the president would likely veto.

Pro-energy Republican Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is expected to chair the Senate Energy Committee, and Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe, who rejects the scientific consensus that global warming is being caused by fossil fuels, will likely lead the environment panel.

On the advice of many of RSP's most esteemed medical minds, I have been hiding in my hazmat bunker for the last couple weeks as the imminent ebola outbreak swept the country, leaving hundreds of thousands dead and countless others sick or dying. Thanks to the stern warnings of the RSP doctors, I was able to protect myself.

Man, the late President Obama must feel pretty silly not taking this threat seriously, given that it killed him, his whole family, most of congress, and the capital building janitor. If only he'd listened. If only he had stepped up to LEAD.

I just want to express my sincere thanks to you folks who were not afraid to speak the truth, to go against popular opinion, common knowledge, and expert testimony and keep us informed of the REAL danger we were all in. I know as I look over the wasteland that is my neighborhood post-Ebola riots, I have you thank for my continued health and safety.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

One of the reasons the Court declined to hear the issue was that there was no real disagreement among the Circuits (though the 8th Circuit upheld Nebraska's ban). The 6th Circuit just upheld the bans in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee so it seems inevitable that they're going to have to reconsider.

Dark was arrested at 10:47 p.m. for violating a court order not to be in the front seat of a vehicle that has a back seat, Alaska State Troopers said. Staff at FCC said he was carrying a small bag with methamphetamine in his pocket when he was checked in, troopers said.

Court order not to ride in the front seat?

I looked the guy up in the court database to maybe get a clue. Truth is he has too many court cases to comb through to find meaningful clues.

If I was on the jury I'd have to consider the reason for arrest may not be entirely kosher. If he agreed to it as a condition of release... Then ok. But seriously. No sitting in the front seat?

I realize the conservatives and republican supporters will likely dismiss this out of hand given the source, but here is an interesting perspective on the Presidential vs. Mid-term election swings between parties (it's quite short):

The electoral boom-bust cycle, and why parties have no incentive to change.

Here is the money quote:

kos wrote:

So in short, we have two separate Americas voting every two years. We have one that is more representative, that includes about 60 percent of voting age adults. Then we have one where we can barely get a third of voting age adults to turn out, and is much whiter and older than the country. And Democrats can win easily with the one, and Republicans can win easily with the other.

And that cycle won't be broken until 1) the Democrats figure out how to inspire their voters to the polls on off years, or 2) Republicans figure out how to appeal to the nation's changing electorate.

As if the 2010 bunch of Tea Party Republicans elected as Congressmen weren't outrageous enough, guess what: A whole new crop of crazies was elected in Tuesday's election! laugh

> Excerpts from the November 5, 2014 Daily Kos news story by Hunter entitled:

It's Time To Meet Your Craziest Republicans Just Elected To Congress

Tuesday's elections brought both a rout of Democrats and a new standard for just who can be a national Republican these days. That's not good, but let's have a quick look at the new House and Senate conservatives most likely to rise to (unintended) prominence in the next two years.

It's time for meet your new craziest Republicans. On the Republican Crazy Beat, those are the top faces to watch. They'll all be appearing very, very often on the satire shows and probably more than a few times on the Sunday shows (but I repeat myself). We'll also have the usual Steve Kings and Louie Gohmerts and, always, Ted Cruz, but if you're looking for the next national leader who will either make a total fool of his or herself, make a fool out of his or her whole state, or accidentally shoot someone in the face during a hunting trip, here are the names that should feature on your new Republican Bingo cards.

Glenn Grothman

Glenn Grothman, WI-06: Any list has to start with new Wisconsin Representative Glenn Grothman. Grothman is a finely tuned gaffe machine, if by "gaffe" we mean "saying the things Republicans are not supposed to say out loud." He is a fervent believer in stopping The Gay Agenda, which he believes exists in our nation's classrooms, but it's the full scope of Grothman's bizarre statements that have led us to predict that he will quickly rise to challenge Texas Republican Louie Gohmert for the title of America's Dumbest Congressman. Does he have the stuff? We'll soon know.

Jody Hice

Jody Hice, GA-10: Another beneficiary of a hard-right conservative district, Georgia's Jody Hice can't be considered a gaffe machine. He's just plain mean. A Tea Party Republican right out of Central Casting, Hice is a preacher, a conservative radio host, a gun-toter, and the district's replacement for Paul "Evolution and embryology and the big bang theory are lies from the pit of Hell" Broun. Hice's most recent hit has been the assertion that Muslim-Americans are not protected by the First Amendment because Islam is not a true religion; he also is frothingly anti-gay and is for women entering politics only if it is "within the authority of her husband." Look for Hice to be a loudmouth Steve King type; not dumb, but meaner than a bag of rattlesnakes and a whole lot louder. He'll be defending his Georgia district from the Gays, Muslims, and women who enter politics without their husbands' permission.

Specialo Note: Jody Hice believes in and advocates Dominion theology.

Mark Walker

Mark Walker, NC-06: An also-ran compared to the more reliably soon-to-be-infamous Grothman and Rice, Mark Walker will nonetheless make a solid addition to the members of Congress that you will shudder to think have actual power. His highlight reel is topped by the time he proposed "We go laser or blitz" Mexico in order to teach them a lesson about immigrants crossing our southern border. He's yet another Tea Partier that sallied into Congress while Republicans were proudly proclaiming they had tamped down on all that nonsense this time around. He also says he'd vote to impeach Obama.

Joni Ernst

Joni Ernst, IA-Sen: When it comes to the Senate, all connoisseurs of train wrecks in the making are expecting great things from the Sarah Palinesque Joni Ernst. A far-right conspiracy theorist who coasted through the election on reporter fluff pieces and stories of pig castration, Ernst will join — and perhaps top — the Senate contingent of Republican believers in all things conspiratorial and insane. Think Michele Bachmann, but in the Senate. Think your crazy grandpa and his forwarded chain letters, but in the Senate. Think that person who accosts you at lunch one day with their theories of how Agenda 21 will be allowing cows to vote and forcing humans into tent cities—but in the actual Senate. Think Ted Cruz, but—well, think Ted Cruz. Ernst's campaign showed two and only two settings, either ducking the press like a hunted submarine or engaging in word salads that rival the best Palinisms. We expect great things from her.

Tom Cotton

Honorable Mention: Tom Cotton, AR-Sen: He won't be a Joni Ernst, primarily because Ernst has squirreled away too much crazy for anyone but Ted Cruz himself to challenge, but Tom Cotton will prove a reliable Craven Liar Republican in the tradition of our finest intentionally insincere leaders. Why the Craven Liar title, as opposed to challenging in either the Sweet Jesus this guy is dumb or the Mean Bastard categories? Because Cotton's campaign showed a level of straight-up bullshit and pandering that had previously been seen only in satire bits about what Republicans might think, as when he supposed that ISIS and Mexican drug cartels would be teaming up to attack us across our border, a conservative wet-yer-pants claim seemingly handcrafted in the belief that Tom Cotton supporters were among the dumbest people on the planet. Unfortunately for Arkansas Republicans, he had them pegged. Cotton was also the most notable user of ISIS-produced terrorism films in his own ads, a move both meant to invoke terror in Americans so they would vote his way and one that likely earned the gratitude of the terrorist group for boosting publicity of their snuff films as they had intended. Perhaps we'll call him the ISIS senator, as it's a good bet ISIS already does.

Alexander “Sash” Nemphos, a 16-year-old sophomore at a Baltimore-area high school, wrote in his journal that he planned to kill his parents, as well as students, teachers and a police officer at the George Washington Carver Center for the Arts and Technology on Halloween. Instead, he was arrested at home on Saturday.

“Alexander stated that he had intended to go through with his plan on Halloween (10/31/14) and had in fact taken the firearm to school in his backpack, but remembered that he did not have the bombs, so he did not go through with the plan. He stated that he drank whiskey prior to going to school and was too intoxicated to carry out the plan. He stated that he was going to try again on Monday (11/03/14). This time he was not going to drink so he could carry out his plan without being impaired,” Baltimore County Police Officer Tim McLaughlin wrote in the charging documents.
